Senate Rejects Arctic Drilling

On December 21, the U.S. Senate blocked drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by sustaining a filibuster of the Defense Appropriations Bill (H.R. 2863), which included an Arctic drilling provision. The pro-drilling forces needed 60 votes for “cloture” -- to break the filibuster of the bill -- but they could only muster 56. Below, please find information about how your Senators voted on the cloture motion. Remember: a NO vote was a vote to protect the Arctic Refuge. A YES vote was a vote to drill in the Refuge. The table below is organized to show all the "NO" votes first sorted by party followed by all the "YES" votes sorted by party. [Please note: Senator Majority Frist voted NO for procedural reasons, not because he opposes drilling.]
